Aftermath of the 1st Goban Royale

Dear Baduk Friends!

Last Sunday saw the very first edition of the Goban Royale. Three separate tournaments were held, and at the end of the evening we had one deserving champion in each category.

The Dan division gathered 10 players who faced each other in a double elimination bracket. Despite a few technical problems, great games were played, like the Winner's bracket semi final between Gor and Simba, with a half moku win for the latter. At the end, the result was logical, with the win of Frozen Soul, the clear favorite, over flachlachbesen.

The SDK category had 12 registered contestants, with a group stage leading into a single elimination bracket. The format was harsh, and Serieux needed all his composure to dominate every opponent he faced. He beat Fluff M in the final by 33.5 points. The winner's prize was a lesson by xhu98 (AGA 6d).

In the DDK cup, only 7 participated. The low number of players didn't reduce the will to win a lesson by Bonesaw! At the end of the brawl, Airstrike came back from the lower bracket to win the trophy, defeating Kamelotusky in their second confrontation.
