As the year waves us 2022 goodbye, and we delve into the year 2023, we would like to do a quick recap of what OSR has achieved in this period:

To begin with a few statistics of the OSR:

  • Our membership has grown from 1969 members at the beginning of 2022 to 2117 members as of the end of the year 2022.
  • In total 267 games were played across leagues 37.
  • There were in total 37210 lines of messages posted in Discord
  • The OSR entered 2022 with €44,39 , received over the year 2022 €251,28 in donations and via Patreon, of which €84,9 were spent on server maintenance, and €130 on teaching, which brings the balance on January first 2023 to €80,77.

Within the past year, we've managed to establish two more new partnerships for monthly prizes, with the awesome digital go book editor GoBooks and GoMagic, which has tons of ressourful lectures and courses. In addition to that we revived our long standing partnersship and friendship with the incredibly generous Guo Juan 5P and the IGS team from her Internet Go School.

We've also held the Breakthrough to Shodan tournament, which although small in scale was a big success, we met new go buddies and friends, and had loads of fun and exciting games. ^^

New teachers began teaching: The OG and OSR GOAT, GoDave, who after becoming the multiple OSR Meijin has put on his teaching garments: And the generous and well experienced Mikito the Baduk Scholar. Both provide teaching games for winners of our monthly leagues, from DDKs to DANs.

Now to one of the biggest news for the OSR across the years:

The arrival of Eunkyo Do 1P in the OSR!!!

Eunkyo Do 1P from Korea agreed very kindly and generously to teach the OSR members by answering questions we ask her in our Discord and by live reviewing games in upcoming streams! Meeting her, reading her kind and insightful answers to our questions is nothing far from stellar! What an opportunity for all the OSR and all our members!!!

For 2023 we are looking forward to further build up the leagues, possibilities and learning resources for the OSR members.

To kick things off, we will have two key projects for the first quarter of 2023:

  • The OSR Joseki Guide: With your help, we will be reviving and try to finalize the OSR Joseki Guide, an introductory guide to josekis. !!
  • More OpenStudyRoom Tournaments: We will be organize a series of events and games for not one, but two OSR tournaments!!!

We are also very thankful to past, current, and future members of the admin team, who have volunteered to help move our project forward, as well as those who have donated to our project, Pillachill as well as two anonymous benefactors!!!

Finally, we would like to thank you, the OSR community, for all your contributions and participation. OSR has always been and will always be a community project for the community, and we couldn't make it without you.

And with that, we would like to wish you a very Happy New Year, gorgeous games and terrific times in our community!
